Old Laurentians v Rugby St Andrews
OLs and Saints Vets played at Fenley Field on Saturday.
It’s not often we cover the vets in action, so here’s photographer Mike Baker’s pictures from the game.
Rugby St Andrews Vets travelled to Fenley Field for their first game of the season against the more established Old Laurentians squad.
The home side’s bigger pack proved to be the dominant factor, scoring three tries from driving mauls.
Saints temporarily held the lead with two tries from good open play and slick handling but OL’s pack had the final word in a well contested game. It was a welcome return for the venerable ‘occasionals’, who vowed to play more games before the end of the season.
This is part of the recent resurgence for Saints. A long injury and unavailability list has had them struggling to field two teams.
With players recovering and returning, the Development team is now back in regular action, boosted by an impressive colts age contingent that shows great promise for the future.
