Sign up for 5k event which supports local charities
Runners of all ages and abilities are invited to join Rugby’s Ready Steady Fun Run on Sunday, May 17.
Two athletes who will definitely be there are Tina Wilkins and Helen Coleman - and they would like to encourage everyone to join them.
Last year’s 5k fun run was the very first event they had ever taken part in and now they have completed the London Marathon.
Tina and Helen had dreamt of running a marathon one day and have done so just 18 months after taking up the sport.
They started their running journey with Rugby & Northampton AC Ladies’ Running Group who supported them from running for 60 seconds when they started to completing the 26.2 miles.
Delighted to finish in London, Tina said: “I was never going to accompany Paula Radcliffe round the course.
“It was never going to be about time but hopefully, by getting round, I will have inspired some of the other members of the Ladies Running Group to reach for new goals. It really was a childhood dream come true.”
The Ready Steady Fun Run was where it all began for Helen and Tina - a fun event for all abilities, male and female and all ages.
The organisers would like to encourage Rugby residents to come along and take part.
All the entry fees go to the local good causes including The Hummingbird Centre that is a Rugby-based support centre for people affected by cancer.
The run starts and finishes at Rugby’s athletics track off Bruce Williams Way and is a one-lap course. There will be medals and goodie bags for all finishers and prizes for top three male, female and junior athletes as well as spot prizes for those finishing 100th, 200th, or 300th. There will also be children’s races on the track for under 8s. Visit www.randnac.org for entry details.
