Coventry Cracker - Friday, October 2
Rugby’s Mark Cossar aims to make up for his disappointment at not recapturing the British Masters grasstrack title last Sunday by winning tonight’s Coventry Cracker sidecar speedway event at Brandon.
The 29-year-old, who is hot favourite to win on the shale, put up another excellent performance in Dorset, but just missed out to Colin Blackbourn. Cossar’s fifth Masters title will have to wait for another year.
“I wanted the Masters back very badly,” he said. “But now I’ve got to focus very firmly on Brandon. All the pressure is on me. “Things can go very wrong in sidecar racing, so I’m not taking anything for granted. I’ve got everything to lose.”
Local race fans will also be cheering on Mark’s younger brother Tom, 23, himself a previous Masters winner, as well as Rugby’s Gareth Williams and Marton’s Pete Lloyd.
In addition to the super-powerful 1,000cc sidecars, the Coventry Cracker also features a highly competitive 500cc class, which provided no shortage of thrills and spills during August’s very entertaining Sidecar Shootout.
First race on Friday is at 7pm. Admission is £10, free for U16s.
