Rugby rider teams up with Liam Brown to take the title
Mark Cossar’s sensational victory at Brandon’s Sidecar Shootout not only gave the 29-year-old from Rugby another coveted title, but in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd at Brandon, he has given the sport of sidecar speedway a massive shot in the arm.
As chief organiser of the event, it was a wonder how Cossar managed to also concentrate on racing, but together with his flawless passenger Liam Brown, the pair won all four of their heats and the winner-take-all Grand Final in typical hair-raising style.
Cossar was roared on by his fans as he was pushed all the way by the very impressive Matt Tyrrell, who finished runner-up despite his passenger Mark Courtney taking a heavy fall during practice.
The spectacular Winterburn brothers from Yorkshire (Gareth and Billy) also recovered from engine problems in their opening ride to take a well deserved third place, but the night belonged to Cossar and Brown who had all the moves and the speed to go with it.
“It’s been a fantastic show,” enthused Cossar. “Winning is nice of course, but considering the very short amount of time we had to put the event together, it was great to see so many people here enjoying sidecar speedway, which is such an exciting sport.”
