Rugby host over 400 competitors
Rugby Shree Prajapati Association was proud and honoured to host the 37th SPA Sports Days in the town last month. It was last hosted by the town ten years ago, and in 1977 was home to the first ever SPA Sports Day.
On a glorious sunny day , 400 enthusiastic competitors from across the 13 UK branches partook in eight different sporting categories , using the new Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Sports Centre, Rugby School Sports Centre, Thornfield Bowling Club and the Bar 8 club.
Rugby branch sporting talents excelled once more in taking top honors’ in netball, senior football , over 40s football, pool, darts singles and doubles and junior swimming.
The day was crowned for the town by being awarded the Fair Play Trophy and Chetan Trophy, given to the branch with the most winners.
The sports day event, which took over nine months in organising and planning, was backed up nearly 100 local volunteers.
Ramesh Mistry, from SPA Rugby said: “This is a tremendous achievement for a small town like Rugby.
“All of our volunteers and players made Rugby proud plus it’s really encouraging to see such sporting prowess in some of our younger members. It was truly outstanding.
“Well done to all the participants in all their efforts the fantastic supporters and not forgetting all the volunteers in making it a truly outstanding Sports day for the Town.”
