Riders enjoy visit from Russelsheim
Visitors from Russelsheim in Germany enjoyed a fun packed programme over the Bank Holiday weekend hosted by Rugby Riding Club. Activities including a trip to London, playing polo at Onley and attending a beer festival at Hunningham gave the visitors a real opportunity to sample English life. The twinning programme between Russelsheim Riding Club and Rugby Riding Club has been running for over 30 years where families spend time in Germany and the following year they come to England.
One of the traditional highlights of the weekend is the dressage competition. Seven riders from each country perform a dressage test on Rugby riders’ own horses, then the German riders choose one of the horses to ride. All are judged on their ability to ride correctly and in harmony in the test. This year Rugby won the team competition and claimed the overall individual dressage prize but no doubt Russelsheim are determined to win in 2014.
This year Rugby Riding Club joined up with Vendon Wright’s Tae Kwon Do Club, who were also hosting Russelsheim families for a presentation evening and disco.
Linda Harris, who organised the Riding Club’s event said: “The weekend was a huge success and it was good to join up with the Tae Kwon Do group too. Some of our visitors have been exchanging for many years, others are new but there is one thing in common they are all so friendly and like to enjoy themselves. They had a great time and joined in with everything we arranged including the polo lesson at Onley which they had never done before. Throughout the year we have held fund raising events such as shows at the club, quizzes and a barn dance. Our fund raising for the 2015 visit will start straight away!”
