Great weekend for Rugby Swimming Club
Gone are the days when Rugby swimmers shied away from swimming in a long course event, as Rugby took a team of over 30 swimmers to Coventry for the end of season Open meet.
This was on the friendly end of the scale with Coventry’s big guns, not needing long course times, as they swim here all the time, not competing. Rugby on the other hand swim long course only a few times a year, and the acclimatisation is vital for the younger swimmers (and parents), to the hugely different 50m pool. The all-time long course rankings now have many many new names, and times all from this weekend, some ranking at the very top of all time for RSC. As always I will fail to make a long list of names a places interesting, but it is the thought that counts.
Stars of the weekend for Rugby were Ladies club captain Megan Williams, who had a proverbial field day, where she won Golds in 100m Fly, 100m free, 200m fly, 200m free, 50m free, and 2nd in 50m fly, Megan also won Overall Age Group Trophy. Matched by Max Taylor, Golds in the 100 free, 50 fly, 50 back, 200 IM, 50 breast, Silver: 200 free, 50 free and Bronze: 400m free, Max is checking on the top swimmer award, as the system suggested he came top. Anna Farrow won the Gold in 50m butterfly - 11 yr old girls, Annabel Crees won a silver in the 9 years girls 50m freestyle, William stamp got a silver in 50 breaststroke, Max Green, 1st - 50 fly (gold), 2nd - 50 free (silver),3rd - 100 free (bronze), Ella won a bronze in the 10year 200BR.
The Carey brothers were on form again, Jack, having just moved up in the 15 and over, with the ‘big boys’ including a returning GB international form Coventry was, 3rd in 100 free, 3rd in 200 free, 3rd in 100 fly and 3rd in 50 fly. Dan was, 1st in 100 free, 3rd in 50 fly and 2nd in 200 free. Tom Tyler took a 3rd place 400 FS, just missing a magical barrier by a finger nail, in a time of 6:00.07. Kieran Jarvis won three silver medals in 9 years, 200 free, 50 back 50 free. Luke Anspokes, silver x2 in 13yrs 100m free and 50 fly.
Continuing on the family theme, Ben and Emma Jones also has successes, Ben Jones, bronze - 100m BR, silver - 200m BR, bronze - 400m FR and Emma, Silver - 50m BR, from Emma who just qualifies at 9, to the upper age group, Abbie Dolly had a great weekend, Abbie won gold - 400m IM, gold - 50m Fly, bronze - 100m Fly. And somewhere in the middle, Mackenzie Patchett–Smyth, won silver in the 400m free for 12s.
So a great weekend for all, if a little long, with the Mercian League final Saturday evening, for which there will be a separate report next week.
