Success at West Midlands Novice Competition
Rugby SC Synchro sent a 45 strong squad of swimmers to the recent West Midlands Novice Competition where the next generation of synchro swimmers were gaining valuable experience at, for some, their first ever competition.
Some 200 swimmers were in attendance at this competition across a range of age groups and events and Rugby SC came away with a collection of medals and some promising performances and results.
In the Skill 0 individual figure event, Phoebe Saturley was the highest placed RSC swimmer in the 8-10 age group placing 8th, in the 11/12 age group Elspeth Iles was highest place 9th and in the 13/14 age group Rosie Thomas placed 10th to complete a good result in this category.
In the Skill 1 individual figure event, Rugby SC took home the gold medal courtesy of Foteini Kalkani and also the bronze medal courtesy of Sarah Twist in the 8-10 age group. In the 11/12 age group Eloise Bowler-Smith secured the bronze medal also. In the 13/14 age group, Molly Saunders took home the silver medal, and Olivia Broomhead narrowly missed out on the bronze medal and was placed 4th. Finally in the 15-19 Erin Dunn-Morgan showed how much she had improved in recent weeks and took home with the gold medal.
Finally in the Skill 2 individual figure events, Charlotte Twist was edged out of the medals into 4th in the 11/12 age group, and this was repeated in the 13/14 age group where Danielle Medgett was placed 4th and Eleanor Garrard 5th in a close event. and finally Jess Mundy was placed 7th in the 15-19 age group.
The second part of the day was duet and team competition, where again Rugby SC were well represented and performed well.
In the 12 and under Duet event Foteini Kalkani and Ariane Sargent swam together for the first time and were placed 4th narrowly edged out of the medals by the older duet from Telford. Ariane Sargent also competed in the 12 and under combination team event where she was joined by Charlie Putt, Eve Howard, Emily Ogg, Anne Mynors, Joey Bridgewater, Ana Rodriguez, Rose Potter, Elspeth Iles and Bethany Clarke where this group of girls, competing together for the first time and gaining valuable experience looking forward to the rest of the competition year, placed 7th.
In the 13/14 Duet event, Danielle Medgett and Isobel Ogg saved their best performance for the competition and were rewarded with a silver medal.
In the 13/17 age group Combination Team event, Rugby again fielded a new team gaining in experience and placed 4th. The girls that competed were Rosie Thomas, Katie McConnell, Anna Kempson, Jessica Farndon, Emily Marston, Mae Howard, Molly Saunders, Sophie Chaloner and Olivia Broomhead.
Finally Jess Mundy and Molly Port competed in the 15-17 age group Duet event and swam well in a strong event to place 5th.
Well done to all the girls who were a credit to the club, and thankyou to all the helpers, judges, officials and supporters that travelled to Walsall to support the girls. This was a great competition to start the competitive year and is a great sign of things to come as the year progresses.
