Success in AEGON U14s Junior International at Edinburgh

Young tennis starJake Hersey has won the Under 14 AEGON Junior International in Edinburgh.

In a tough three set final he clinched the title 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.

The Ashlawn School pupil, who was seeded eighth in a field of 64 players from the USA, Australia and several countries across Europe, played some outstanding tennis throughout the week to come through a series of tough matches.

Coach Gary Naughton said: “This tournament win was good reward for the increased level of work and commitment Jake has shown in training over the last seven months.

“We knew he was playing well in training of late, but this is the best I have seen him play in a tournament.

“And you have to remember that Jake is a year younger than the majority of his opponents which makes the victory even better for him.”

Jake said: “This was my first international tournament victory and my best tournament win so far, so I am really pleased with how I played and the result.”

Jake would like to thank sponsor Babolat for their ongoing support.
