Under 16s doubles win in Moscow for Rugby’s rising player
Jake Hersey and his doubles partner Aidan McHugh are now European U16 Doubles Champions after taking the title representing Great Britain in Moscow over the weekend. The competition involved teams representing 40 countries.
Seeded 11, they were given a bye in the first round and then overcame teams from Latvia, Turkey, Switzerland, then Czech Republic in the semi-final before defeating the pairing from Greece 7-6, 7-5 in the final.
This is a prestigious title to win with many famous players on the role of honour, so something both players can be very proud of – a great achievement.
Jake is grateful to Babolat, TennisFirst, SportsAid/Jaguar and Peugeot for their support. He is one of three young sports stars to be supported by Peugeot’s new Rising Stars programme.
Jake, who was introduced to tennis as a four-year-old, has been based full time at the Edgbaston Priory High Performance LTA centre since 2013. He said: “My goal for 2016 is to get to the top 100 in the world for Under 18s. I’m currently ranked in the top 250 in my second year in ITF Juniors.”
