Fantastic opportunity for 16-year-old to train full time
Rugby’s Jake Hersey has begun a new chapter in his tennis career by signing up to go and train full time at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Majorca, Spain.
The Academy is brand new, opening at the beginning of September and offers what can only be described as the total tennis training package providing 16-year-old Jake with a fantastic opportunity to maximise his potential.
After a two-day visit in August, Jake was offered a place on the ‘Pro-Programme’ which is a highly focussed full-time tennis programme incorporating high intensity fitness and tennis for up to six hours a day.
As well as other full time players, Jake has already had the opportunity to hit with top 300 ranked ATP players and had Toni Nadal on court coaching him.
And after less than two weeks he had impressed the coaches sufficiently to be invited to hit with Rafa Nadal in one of his training sessions, where Jake took his opportunity with both hands and was asked to hit with Rafa a further four times until going away for tournaments.
Jake said: “It is extremely tough, very hard work and he hits the ball so hard, but an absolute honour and fantastic experience for me to get an insight into one part of one of the world’s top players training programme.”
Jake is grateful to Babolat, TennisFirst, Peugeot and SportsAid for their support.
