The Winter League final was held on Sunday. This competition started in October and after ten group matches, a quarter final and a semi-final, the finalists were Martin Sheppard playing off a 7 handicap and Gary Townsend (12) versus Matt Bell (3) and Simon Daysh (6). After six holes Sheppard and Townsend, playing super golf, found themselves five holes up.

The fight back started and at the 9th hole, the lead had been cut to just three holes. Standing all square on the tee at the difficult 18th it was all to play for.

Simon Daysh was on downslope by the green and had to get down in two to win. He left himself a tricky three foot putt to win the match which he duly holed. What a match!

n Monday saw Rugby Golf Club’s Ladies’ section host their popular annual coffee morning, Bring and Buy sale and pre-season 12 hole stableford competition.
