Perseverance, passion and a penguin were all on show at last Sunday’s Daventry Spring Triathlon, when 300 competitors took to the streets of the town and surrounding area.
Jack Bond took the overall men’s honours by completing the race the quickest in 59:17. Sally Boon, a triathlon novice, won the ladies race in an excellent time of 1:12:02 and Team Rugby Tri Young & Old won the relay competition in 1:02:27.
Councillor Alan Hills, Daventry District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community, Culture & Leisure said: “This second year has seen entry numbers rocket and I’m not surprised it’s an excellent race, well run and extremely friendly for novices and experienced athletes alike.”
Race Director Garry Haynes of Rugby Triathlon Club said: “We’re so pleased that the event went smoothly and that so many entrants enjoyed their experience - including the penguin! We’ve had great support again this year from Daventry District Council, Daventry Leisure Centre, volunteers and all our commercial sponsors and supporters. The smiles and positive comments we’ve received really makes organising this event worthwhile. We hope to see many back again in 2014.”
