A trio from Rugby Triathlon Club took on the challenge of The Outlaw Half Ironman race held at the National Watersports Centre, Nottingham on June 1st. This testing and popular event had a field of over 1450 competitors and comprised a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile cycle and a 13.1 mile run.

Tim Bateman was the fastest member, completing the distance in 5:36:05, followed by Richard Rawnsley in 5:50:58 and Chris Longman in 6:26:56.

On the previous day and at the same venue, three more members raced in the Nottingham Big Sprint Triathlon (750m swim, 20k cycle, 5k run). Sally Boon, in her first open water race, ‘smashed’ her previous personal best by posting a time of 1:09:43. Lawrence Webb finished in 1:04:59 and Matthew Miller in 1:08:30.

Mike McGillion, on his ‘come back’, continues to improve and posted a time of 1:24:21 at the Market Bosworth Sprint (750 swim, 21k cycle, 5k run) on June 1st, which was good enough to win his age category (44-49).

Rugby Triathlon Club currently organises and promotes one triathlon race a year. Taking place in Daventry at the end of August, the race is suitable for novices and experienced competitors alike. More information about the Daventry Triathlon and the club’s adult and junior sections can be found at
