Wilson day a great success

SOME 61 ‘golfers’ played in the Wilson Memorial Golf Day and raised £850 for the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

The rain held off for the competition that was played at Brandon Golf Club, with Mark Smith the winner of the trophy. The Wilson Memorial Golf Day was held to remember Dave Wilson, a past friend from Long Lawford and to raise money for charity.

The day was a great success with thanks to all the people and businesses who contributed to hole prizes and raffle prizes.

The English Golf Blind Stableford was played on Sunday 12th August.

The winner was Tim Croft who came in with 41 points. 2nd was Samual Bourne, 3rd Phil Turrel, 4th Matt Bell, all with 41 points decided on count back. 77 players competed each contributing £1.50 to the EGB.

n The penultimate Avon league fixture for Rugby was a home match against Stonebridge Golf Club last Saturday.

The benign weather and sunny conditions played their part in a glorious afternoon of golf.

Six pairs from each club contested the match in a “better ball format” with five scores already posted the match was tied at 2.5 points each, awaiting the result of the final pairings which featured the respective team Captains.

The result of the final pairing was 1 up win for the Rugby pair of Simon Daysh (Team Captain) & Mark Ridley beating the Stonebridge pair of Adam Edwards & Robert Dawkins, giving Rugby the overall win 3.5 to 2.5.

n On Sunday Rugby welcomed Staverton Golf Club in a mixed match. Played in a Greensome format. The teams were made up of seven pairs.

After six matches the match was tied 3 all with the 7th to finish.

Staverton won the final game winning the match 4, 3.
