Beginners, improvers and Over 60s sessions

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre in Rugby is launching several badminton initiatives for people of all ages.

The leisure centre run by GLL, the charitable social enterprise that operates Greenwich leisure centres under its Better brand, is supporting Sport England Sportivate project with the launch of a Badminton Club and Over 60’s Racquets Club.

Starting tomorrow, February 23, Sportivate Badminton will take place from 6-7pm every Monday. The initiative is part of a six-week course, which offers a gentle introduction to the sport for players aged 11 years and above.

The aim is to learn new skills, discover a sporting talent, have fun with friends or make new ones. It costs just £2.50 per session.

On March 4, a badminton and short tennis club will take from 10 – 11am every Wednesday for those aged over 60.

This ten-week project offers recreational and beginner players an opportunity to try both sports with a co-ordinator to supervise the sessions. The first session is free; thereafter it will be £2.20 per session. Regular participants will also receive a free swim voucher.

Lastly, on Friday, March 13, the centre will be launching The Queen’s Diamond Badminton Club for those who are keen to play competitively. It will take place from 7.20-9pm at just £5 per session. The Better Level 2 coach will improve or help participants master their badminton skills for anyone aged 14 years and above.
