Warwickshire Men v Ladies

Every year the ladies look forward to their match against the County men and this year was no different except they weren’t able to win but were only 20 shots adrift – 99-119

At least the weather cheered up and after a soaking at Wellingborough on the Tuesday by Thursday the sun had got his hat on and there was no sign of wet weather gear or even fleeces!

Highest winning rink went to the Stoke team skipped by Elaine Taylor with Di Medhurst Chris Roberts and Janet Kitchener who played the County Men’s President – Clive Faulkner who was supported by Geoff Moran, Henry Gardner and Andy Prickett. The ladies started strongly and although they lost four shots on a couple of ends their win was never really in doubt and they eventually finished 27-16.

Close behind the highest winning rink, with the same score line, but not so many ends won, was Pat Moore with Norma Willey (both Three Spires), Hazel Goodman (Lillington) and Chris Harrison (Ambleside) who proved too much for their opposition eventually winning 21-10.

Margaret Waterhouse (Snitterfield), with Joy Cooke (Blossomfield), Jean Petty (Norgren) and Carole Simmons (Welford) were slow to start but came into their own later in the game only losing by 4 shots in the end, 13-17.

Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) with Antoinette Lambert (Ambleside), Ann Doherty (Lillington) and Joan Hall (Nuneaton) were only two shots adrift 10-12 at 11 ends, but their opponents went ahead for the second half and the ladies finished 16-24.

Sigrid Thomas (Rugby Thornfield) with Trudi Windsor (Bilton), Linda Linney (Stratford) and Gloria Higgins (RLS) set off well and were level pegging 10 all at 15 ends but the men put on a spurt resulting in a 12-22 final score line.

Jenny Corn with Chris Richards, Di Thurlbeck (all Lillington) and Wendy Baxter (Rugby Ladies) set off well and were 6 all at 10 ends but then their opponents took off and they finished 10-21 down.

After a splendid meal provided by Stoke Bowling Club the Ladies’ County President, Di Medhurst started by presenting the Rose Bowl to the men’s President, Clive Faulkner, and finished the afternoon by presenting a Blazer Badge to her club mate Janet Kitchener as well as a highest winning rink prize.
