Valuable winning draw for 2nds too
Warwickshire Cricket League Division 1
Barby 1sts 178-3 (20 points)
Weoley Hill 1sts 175-10 (4 points)
Barby 1sts won by 7 wickets
Barby returned to winning ways by beating Weoley Hill on an overcast and damp day. After winning the toss Barby captain Joel Gleghorn had no hesitation in asking Weoley to bat first. Weoley were soon reduced to 6-2 by Will Sinclair who finished with figures of 4-30 as Weoley were bowled out for 175 with Naim Luhar top scoring with 71 and Greg Morley making 40. James Wynn Evans chipped in with 3-52 and Danny Scott taking 2-48 to support Sinclair’s earlier efforts with the ball.
In reply David Watson batted well in making 37 but it was left to a fourth wicket partnership of 88 between Tom Gleghorn 60 not out and Rob Edom 58 not out to take Barby to victory in just 25 overs and secure 20 points for the Division 1 leaders.
Warwickshire Cricket League Division 7
Barby 2nds 187-10 (16 points)
Weoley Hill 2nds 150-8 (10 points)
Barby 2nds winning draw
Barby gained a valuble winning draw at home to Weoley Hill 2nds. After rain delayed the start, the match was reduced to 41 overs per side. On a damp wicket Barby batted well to reach 187 all out, with Mathew James making 74 and Charlie Seager 44 the main run scorers. Andrew Rogers took 5-53 for Weoley Hill.
In reply Weoley started slowly and fell behind the run rate and after 27 overs had reached 73-2. The introduction of leg spinner Mathew Nobes to the bowling attack caused a batting collapse as he returned figures of 4-49 to reduce Weoley to 110-7. But with overs running out they hung on for a draw finishing on 150-8, with Will Hawkins 33 and James Hawkins 32 the top scorers.
Northamptonshire Cricket League Division 13
Barby 3rds 104-9
Isham Zingari 105-7
Isham 26pts beat Barby 5pts by 3 wickets
A depleted Barby came close to pulling off a notable victory away at Isham Zingari, eventually going down by 3 wickets with two overs remaining in an exciting, low-scoring contest.
After being inserted on a damp wicket, quick scoring was hard given the wet conditions and barely cut outfield, so batting the full 40 overs and seeing where that led to was the order of the day.
At 44-2 approaching the half way stage the visitors were reasonably place, but a clatter of wickets post drinks saw them quickly subside to 51-7. Sensible batting from Sherwood (28no) ensured Barby achieved 3 batting points and gave them something to bowl at.
With very few frontline bowlers at his disposal, Captain John Hardbattle relied on opening bowlers David Sherwood and Graeme Lamb to deliver and both bowled well.
Both Matt Beagley and John Hardbattle captured their first (and probably last!) league wickets of the season in a rare bowl for each, and at 91-7 the visitors had a chance to pull off an unlikely win.
Unfortunately a couple of crucial catches were then put down and no.9 batsman Hobbs played with calm assurance to see the hosts home with 1.5 overs remaining.
Another excellent game of cricket for the 3s, again played in the right spirit with both teams quite happy to agree to play in the light rain for more than three hours to ensure the game was played.
