Team playing in Division 3 of Warwickshire GAA League
The Rugby Gaels Gaelic Football Club boasts an intermediate Men’s team competing in Division 3 of the Warwickshire GAA League.
A relatively new club that was established in 1999, the Gaels have members from all four corners of Ireland: Cork, Roscommon, Down, Wexford, Dublin and Monaghan to name a few.
They also have a number of British-born players who have taken to Gaelic football with great success. Similar sports such as football and rugby provide the necessary basics to ensure an easy transition to Gaelic football.
In addition Gaelic football is predominantly played in the summer months, which is the closed season for most other sports.
As well as an adult team they also have an U21 team who last year reached the championship final with a significant number of British born players.
New players are always welcome, both experienced and new players or those with a keen interest in getting involved with a Gaelic football club. The Gaels pride themselves on hosting an active social scene, with many events focused on team building and promoting the club across the Rugby area throughout the year.
Some highlights include an annual award and presentation night, club dinner dance, race nights, summer BBQs, a charity football ‘Ireland v England’ games, trips to rugby union games, trip to Ireland for Gaelic games and for the first time this year a charity boxing match.
All of this, combined with playing Gaelic football, helps to work towards the club’s goal in the coming years to promote a vibrant community in Rugby.
If you are interested in playing football with Rugby Gaels, or would like to be a part of our vibrant social community then please get in touch. The season has now started, but players and members can join throughout the year.
