The first weekend in May is the traditional time for the early season fixture where the Club Captain’s team takes on the Lady Captain’s team. After hours of tense negotiation and team selection Mark Ridley’s men took on Olive Atwell’s ladies in  betterball matchplay with the ladies all receiving three bisques. In the lead match Mark and Adrian Evans lost out to Olive and Linda Long 3 and 1 - and this set the trend for the annual ritual humiliation that followed. Although the final match score was 4 - 3, the scoreline flattered the men’s side who were never, ever going to win this match, as ever played in good humour and high spirits.

President’s Putter

Last weekend saw President Adrian Evans host his annual competition - the President’s Putter - with the Clifton Road course in fine fettle. A record 107 golfers entered this early season major with scoring made difficult due to a severely testing and gusting wind.

The breezy conditions made the winning score even more remarkable - with Jack Malone scoring 41 stableford points off his 5 handicap - effectively shooting a gross level par score. This will certainly be one of the stand out performances of the year. Also scoring superbly was Tom Hall with 40 points to give him second place with Duncan Snook third on 38 points.

Another superb day for the club with many new members savouring major competition for the first time - with thanks to Adrian for hosting yet another keenly fought competition.
