New Men’s Elite coach joins the club

After a mixed fortune 2015/16 campaign, which saw the Ladies 1st XI promoted and the Men’s 1st XI drop in the Midlands 1st division, the 2016/17 is full of anticipation and expectation. We are delighted to announce two experienced additions to the men’s section.

Greg Wade has joined as the Men’s Elite Coach, overseeing the coaching programme and taking a big role in the delivery of 1st XI along with Henry Harrison. Greg is currently Head of Hockey at Warwick School, which has recently been announced as an England Hockey Performance Centre. He has spent the past four years working in the National League with Olton & West Warwickshire as Head Coach.

He kept the club in a commanding position working with junior and senior internationals and felt the timing was right for a new challenge. Greg has also been involved heavily with the England Hockey Single System, coaching the England U16 Girls along the way. As well as his coaching prowess his ambition is to play for England in the Over 40s category. This is superb news for our own Vets side who will embark on a second

campaign to go one step further and win the Masters Final at Lee Valley.

The second addition is well known to anyone in the Hockey network. Szymon Oszyjczyk has agreed new terms and will stay at the club for his fifth season. He has amassed over 170 goals at Rugby and has new ambitions this year to break the 200 goal marker and get 1st XI back in the Midlands Premier.

Szymon did have a spell in Croatia last year and led our indoor team at Christmas. His invaluable experience and commitment to our club is something he should be proud of and one that will continue to lead us to higher expectations.

So the Men’s 1st XI begin on 1st October, with a full friendly calendar booked in for September there’s no hiding our ambition and determination to be at the pinnacle once again in the Midlands Premier.

We are hosting a Club President Day on 3rd September where Junior coaching is available in the morning, and you can watch the 1st XI in action at 12noon. Please check our Club Website for further details.
