Rugby & East Warwickshire Hockey Club round-up

A classic Nicki Siarbawa hat-trick as well as goals to player of the match Kirby Harris and Charlie Woolliscroft saw a very closely matched but open game end 5-5 for Rugby & East Warwickshire’s ladies’ 1st XI against Nottingham University.

A very tight game at Sutton Coldfield 3rds saw Rugby ladies’ 2nd XI come back after going a goal behind into half time.

A well-executed flick from Jess Naylor levelled matters to finish 1-1. Player of the match went to Gracie Gerrard for a fantastic effort in goal.

Playing again in a rearranged game on Sunday, the 2nds drew 2-2 with Warwick University 1st.

A great team performance against Sutton Coldfield 7ths saw the ladies 4ths dominate possession and win 3-1.

Jackie Adlum scored as well as two to Annie. Player of the match was Natalia Perzylo for a strong defensive effort.

REWHC Men’s 1st beat Old Halesonians 1sts 2-1.

A Luke Armstrong drag flick and Andy Walker finishing off a great team move saw Rugby win yet another home game this season despite going down a goal in the first half.

A high effort first half saw Rugby’s 2nd XI keep the game close, with Burton only managing to break through to convert a penalty corner.

A Philip Dickinson penalty corner goal brought hope to Rugy, however Burton came back harder to put the game away 4-1. Man of the match went to Euan Walker.

A well worked goal from Richard Cook and a strong showing in goal from man of the match Matt Westbury, making several key saves early on, was not enough for Rugby 3rds to hold back a strong Ashby side.

Despite holding out against several short corner attempts they lost 6-1.

REWHC Men’s 4ths were beaten 6-3 by Ashby 2nds.

A tight first half saw the teams at two goals apiece going into half time thanks to Nick Foster and Liam Brown.

The second half was not as tight thanks to numerous goal line saves from the Ashby defence. Leigh Spacey scored the last from a Rugby penalty corner.

Another tight affair in the second round of the Rugby derby between the 5ths and 6ths ended 3-3.

The 5ths scored through Bradley Ferris, Giles Morrison and Oscar Thornton whilst the 6ths found the back of the net via Richard Hardy, Ed Thomas and Charlie Derbyshire.

All in all another great showing, going down to the wire as both sides vied for bragging rights.
