REWHC Men’s 1st XI 4

Rugby faced a tough trip to league strugglers Northampton Saints on Saturday, a side looking to secure their first points this term. Rugby started the game well, pressing and countering when the opportunity struck.

Rugby always threatened and had two balls cleared off the line, but the deadlock was finally broken when Stu Jones slotted into the bottom corner to score his second goal in two games.

Rugby further extended their lead following some excellent defensive work from Sam Bevin, releasing the pacey Liam Brown to create an easy chance to finish for Chris Graham.

Szymon Oszyjczyk added a further two goals, one from the penalty spot, wrapping up the points for Rugby. Some excellent defensive work from the whole team and especially some superb saves from keeper Chris Thomas ensured Rugby kept the clean sheet as well. Rugby face a double header next weekend, looking to secure six points from Stone and Harborne.

REWHC Men’s 2nd XI 1

Loughborough Students 7

Men’s 2nds lost to Loughborough students. The students’ 16-man squad started out playing some high quality hockey, going 3-0 up inside 20 minutes and five by half time. Rugby improved in the second half, competing much more and scoring their only penalty corner through a great deflection from Phil Dickinson. They did will to keep the scoreline down with some great defending from Danny Bell and Max S. Next week should be much easier away at Cannock.

Boots 2

REWHC Men’s 3rd XI 2

Boots, like Rugby, had only picked up one win so far. Rugby went ahead through Gaz Unett and had further chances through Kristian Browne and Tom Carter. At the other end Sam Fletcher and man of the match Andy Walker had good games in defence but were unable to stop two first-half goals. At the break it was 2-1.

In the second half Rugby piled on the pressure and despite winning numerous short corners Browne was only able to convert one, the slower ball out-foxing the keeper. Rugby perhaps deserved the win and thought they’d got it when Harry Brignal beat the keeper, only for the umpire to give Rugby a free hit just before it crossed the line. That said, Boots had a short corner right at the end and could easily have taken all the points. So not such a bad outcome. Easy match at home to Cannock next week.

REWHC Men’s 4th XI 1

B’ham Uni 10

Despite the score, Rugby played well against the only side in the league to have a 100% win record so far. Their one goal came from Paul Ryan scoring from a penalty corner. Man of the match was Tom Webb.

REWHC Men’s 5th XI 1

Belper 3

The 5s lost at home to Belper 4s in a good game, won by about 80 years more hockey experience. A great first goal of many to come for George and Connor won’t face anybody else in this league that can hit the ball quite that hard! A good performance given that Belper came to win three points.

Loughborough Town 6

REWHC Men’s 6th XI 3

REWHC Men’s 7th XI 10

Barton 1

Super sevens are now up to the dizzy heights of second in the league following a comprehensive victory over Barton 4s. Ten goals were shared between J, Hodgey, older Nicho and Paddy, who excelled himself on debut.

The score was 4-0 at half time and Barton scored close to time due to lapses within the Rugby defence.

REWHC Ladies 1st XI 4

Leamington 1

Ladies 1s had a scrappy game against Leamington Ladies but won 4-1. Nicki Siarbawa scored twice, with the other goals by Is Powel and Charlie Woolliscroft.

REWHC Ladies 2nd XI 2

Warwick Uni 1

Ladies 2s played a great game against Warwick Uni. Two well-fought goals came from man of the match Lou-Lou Danger.
