Come and play day

The Rugby Area Netball Association celebrated another successful season in June with their annual presentation evening.

With many of the ladies of the 250 strong membership cheering enthusiastically for their team mates nominated for Best Player, along with the new category of Umpires’ Player, the winners were Carol Lewington and Helen Horton, in Division 1 with Millie Britton and Charlotte Gardner from Division 2 respectively.

Despite a strong challenge from Yearsley Aces this season, JWR took the Division 1 title again, winning all their 18 games.

The Division 2 crown was taken by Yearsley Diamonds with Lutterworth Robins just three points behind.

Vanessa Walker, Superleague player from Loughborough Lightening made the winners’ presentations as well as those in recognition of retiring committee members and newly qualified umpires.

Teams are looking for new members and so the Sunday morning league is encouraging new players of all ages (over 14 years) and abilities to join them on Sunday (September 13) from 10am to 12 noon at Rugby School Sports Centre, Horton Crescent.

Led by qualified coaches the morning will include a warm up, netball drills and short games.
