ORIENTEERING: Trophies for outstanding junior performances

Following on from the success of winning the West Midlands league club chairman, Barry Elkington, presented trophies to juniors in recognition of their outstanding performances throughout the year at the annual Christmas party and presentations evening.

He congratulated 10 year old Max Straube-Roth who won Bob’s Dad’s Trophy. This trophy is awarded to the junior club member who has achieved the most outstanding result or set of results during the year, particularly is respect of major national championships. He was 1st in the Midlands, 2nd in the British Middle, 3rd in the British Sprint and 4th in the British Long Championships. He also won the West Midlands Championships and the Club Championships in his age class.

Matt Bambrook won the Jennifer Haw Shield awarded to the junior club member who accumulated the highest score, 824, after competing in 11 out of the 12 West Midlands League events. Florence Lunn was presented with her West Midlands trophy for winning the W16 age class and for winning her age class in the club championships.

Next Event: The popular Christmas Relays on Sunday, 29th December will this year be at Rough Close Scout Camp, near Coventry. Staged during the morning from 10am over 4 legs of differing lengths and technical difficulty, it promises to be a great opportunity to work off the Christmas excesses.
