Welsh secured another bonus point victory scoring ten tries against a spirited Dixonians.

Dixonians have had a difficult season but started well.

However they could not breach the strong defence and Welsh went ahead with an excellent three quarter move finished by Jack Taylor.

Loz Galleno was at the heart of the action and he scored the second try bursting through from short range.

Jamie Roche scored a similar effort with Angus Wilson adding the extra points. The bonus point was secured when Jason Warren, who made a number of impressive carries, scored from a five metre scrum.

The second half saw Welsh continue to dominate but Dixonians deserve huge credit for never letting their heads drop and always trying to play a good brand of rugby.

With Glenn Bond running the show from flyhalf, Welsh attacked from all areas of the pitch.

Jack Taylor scored three further tries, four in total, as his jinking runs and pace caused the opposition continued problems, whilst Ricky Reed scored his first try for the club with a typical sniping burst. Galleno added his second try with Robin Tyerman finishing off the scoring. Wilson added five second-half conversions.

Welsh take a break from league action this weekend and are in the pool. Check their website for details.

Rugby Welsh Barbarians 44

Quorn Rugby 17

Rugby Welsh fielded a second team for the first time in many years on Saturday.

The Barbarians are a mix of experienced and younger players with the focus on enjoyment on and off the pitch, providing a stepping stone into the first team and to test players out of their normal positions.

They started well with Chris Tew and Ash Beecham particularly impressive. Chris Grant went over for the first score. Stew Griffiths and Matty Richards made strong runs and centre Tom White raced over from half way.

In the second half Beecham crashed over after good work from the pack and Tew broke numerous tackles for a 24-0 lead.

Quorn came back with three tries but a quick tap from scrum half Jamie Cranham enabled Griffiths to break several tackles to score. White added two more tries with one for Richards.

This was a great game and the club would like to thank all supporters in making it a special day in their history.

The Barbarians will have regular fixtures throughout the season and anyone interested in playing should contact the club on Facebook.
