Saints were making good ground and recycling possession well but were guilty of a couple of errors which saw the limited chances go begging.

The breakthrough finally arrived after 20 minutes with Saints winger Brannon Aitchison outpacing the defence to cross for a try converted by Will Morgan.

Old Leams hit back when Saints were caught offside under their own posts and the penalty sneaked over the bar after 25 minutes.

With Saints close to the line, the Old Leams defence covered the Saints ball carriers to allow scrum half Dave Rudd to dummy the pass and cut through the gap to cross for a try converted by Morgan. With pack on top Dan Hull was the next to cross after 33 minutes, forcing his way over from close range.

With the forwards making good ground it was up to the backs to showcase their skills, Morgan cutting through the defence for the bonus point try after 36 minutes.

With half time approaching a Saints penalty was kicked to touch, this gave Saints the opportunity to get their driving maul up and running.

They drove deep into the Old Leams 22 and as the line approached Enefer broke from the maul to cross for the try with Morgan adding his fifth conversion.

The second half was a different story as Old Leams came out with more determination and plugged the gaps in their defensive line.

They enjoyed more possession, but Saints defensive line speed often caught Old Leams in possession behind the gain line.

The game was being played out between the 22’s and on the occasions that play went close to the try line both defences snuffed out the chance.

The only points in the second half came ten minutes from time with Saints winger Brannon Aitchison cutting a great line to wrong foot the defence to cross for his second try of the game.

Man of the Match – Scott Randall.
