Record-breaking double for Kingscote at Warwick’s Bollywood extravaganza

Jockey Richard Kingscote had just two rides at Warwick’s Bollywood Night on Wednesday, but both were winners, with Fathsta and Grebe setting new course records on their way to victory.

There was some spirited betting in the opening Nexus Central Management Services Ltd Apprentice Handicap Stakes over six furlongs with Eastern Dragon from the Michael Scudamore stable supported from 7-1 to 9-2.

But it was another fancied horse in Starlight Angel who looked like landing the spoils when taken into the lead by Oisin Murphy a furlong out until Eastern Dragon came with a well-timed run to reward his backers and win with a bit in hand.

The trip was the same for the following Acorns Children’s Hospice Coventry Committee Selling Stakes and the prolific winner Fathsta, ridden by Kingscote, beat We Have A Dream and Paradise Spectre.

Backed down to 7-4 favourite, Fathsta easily saw off his rivals by three lengths in record time on ground that was clearly pretty fast, despite watering leading up to the meeting.

Trainer Declan Carroll snapped up the winner for 5,400 guineas at the post-race auction.

Ten went to post for the Breeders Backing Racing EBF Maiden Stakes for juveniles and Kingscote brought Grebe home a comfortable winner from the front-running Dandeena in another course record time.

The Oasis Dream colt, owned by Hamdan Al Maktoum, stepped up on his debut fourth at Newmarket and looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

Just five lined up for the five-and-a-half furlong maiden fillies’ stakes for three-year-olds and it was Marjong, the most experienced member of the field, who was all the rage in the betting ring.

Despite missing the break, Marjong came home strongly under Seb Sanders to land some hefty bets on what was becoming a nightmare evening for the bookmakers.

Top weight Umneyati had no trouble in landing the McLarens Loss Adjusters Nursery Handicap to hit the bookies once again before the well-bred 5-2 joint favourite Evangelist, ridden by George Baker, took the sixth, the first middle distance race of the evening, by a neck from Qawaafy.

The concluding Trelawny SPT Ltd Handicap was also over the extended one-and-a-quarter-mile trip and Oisin Murphy, a young jockey with a big future, went one better than in the opener with an all-the-way success on Minority Interest, yet another winning favourite.

There’s racing again on Monday with Family Fun Day that gets underway at 2.10pm.

With free children’s entertainment, including an appearance by Captain Barnacles, gates open two hours beforehand and a family ticket can booked in advance for £30.
