Medal is firmly in Sehmi’s sights

The sixth IWRF Wheelchair Rugby World Championship tips off in Denmark on Monday with Warwick’s Mandip Sehmi firmly believing Great Britain can make their mark on the world stage.

Paralympic bronze came in 2004 and 2008 but GB have failed to medal at the Worlds since 2002.

However, Sehmi says recent impressive performances mean confidence is high despite a tough group containing Australia and Paralympic silver medalists Canada, along with Denmark, Finland and Belgium.

“The belief is really flying high after taking Canada to within a point at the Canada Cup,” said the 33-year-old.

“I really believe the mixture of youth and experience is a great balance.

“We have some amazing talent developing.

“It’s just a matter of time before we break into the top three.”

Great Britain get their campaign under way against Australia in Odense on Tuesday (3pm), with the match being broadcast live via http://kanalsport.dk/
