Old Laurentians are looking to replicate the success of their last Colts team, when a good proportion of the players went on to successful careers in the club’s 1st XV, by re-launching this age group team for season 2016-17.

A number of young players have already joined up and a full coaching and management team has been put in place, headed up by the highly experienced Dan Volkman.

Dan, a former player of some repute and the immediate past chairman of the club, was one of the prime movers in setting up the club’s highly successful mini and junior section eight years ago.

He has been piloting one of the age groups through the junior section, this season’s under 15 team, to become one of the best in the county at their level.

He will work in tandem with Simon Bailey, another very experienced coach in both senior and junior rugby who most recently has been part of the coaching team for OLs’ 1st XV.

This duo will be supported by Andre Nutter, an experienced coach at Colts level, Dave Longrigg, Dave Lee and Russ Parkinson.

Between them this group bring a wealth of experience to the mission, both on and off the field. Their first task is to recruit more players and get training sessions under way from 2 August to bring the squad through to match fitness and skills, before seeking competitive fixtures with other clubs as the season progresses.

They are keen to hear from any young players of Colts age (16 to 18) who would like to join a successful club of high repute and standing in Midlands rugby and who have ambitious and exciting development plans in the pipeline.
