Rugby Lions kept up their promotion chase on Saturday, without touching a ball after Harbury cancelled. It means Lions were awarded the win, which keeps them second in the table.

Midlands 3 West (South) leaders Evesham, who were due to play Shipston on Stour were also awarded the win. Evesham stay top with 86 points, Lions are on 85 and Southam, who surprisingly lost 22-19 at Cheltenham North, are third on 82.

This weekend sees the last games of the season, which will decide the two promotion places. Lions are at home to Ledbury, who warmed up for the fixture with a 97-0 win over Pershore, while Southam host Evesham.

The other team still with plenty to play for in their last game of the season are Rugby Welsh in Midlands 5 West (South). Chasing the runners-up promotion spot, Welsh are currently third but level on 59 points with second-placed Five Ways Old Eds, who have a superior points difference of 223 to 149. Keresley are already crowned champions with 67 points.

This Saturday Welsh travel to sixth-placed Trinity Guild, while Five Ways face fifth-place Copsewood.

Elsewhere, after an excellent first season in the division, Newbold will finish third in Midlands 1 East. On Saturday they won 39-17 at Huntingdon & District. They finish the season away at fifth-placed Ilkeston.

After a brave fight and some fine results in recent weeks, Old Laurentians will be relegated. On Saturday they lost 39-22 at Bugbrooke. In their final fixture they welcome second-placed Derby to Fenley Field.

After a promising start to the season Rugby St Andrews’ fortunes have slipped in recent weeks and they are now third from bottom after going down 11-0 at Northampton BBOB on Saturday in Midlands 3 East (South).

Saints’ last game on Saturday is at home to Northampton Casuals, who are fifth.
