Tryweryn Graveyard Premier Division Race 8 & 9

Kimberley Woods took part in the double Premier Division races 8 & 9 of the 2015 season held at the Tryweryn White Water Centre at Bala in North Wale. Kimberley ranked 1st in the National senior rankings in the Canadian and 2nd in the Kayak class of Canoe slalom was competing in both categories.

The slalom site is on the Graveyard section of the river Tryweryn, 5 miles north of Bala. The river is dam released and provides a year round training and competition site dependant on water release from the Llyn Celyn dam. The weather condition remained good for the whole weekend with no wind making the condition right for an excellent completion.

In the Kayak(K1W) Kimberley made easy work of the technically difficult sections on both of her runs each day completing them in fast times, leading after the first runs on both days, and managed to hold her position on the second runs winning by 3sec on the Saturday and 5 sec on the Sunday. After taking part in only 5 races this season due to international commitments, these results have moved Kimberley to 2nd in the national K1W rankings.

In the Canadian class (C1W) Kimberley set a good time on the first run placing her in second place behind her training partner Mallory Frankin. Although Kimberley had the fastest time on the second run she incurred a 2 sec time penalty dropping her into second place, just 1 sec off the lead. On day two Kimberley again had the fastest time but incurred time penalties and came second by 0.8 of a second.

Kimberley next races at Lea Valley Olympic white water centre for the senior GB team and the 2016 Olympic boat selection races at the end of October.
