The ladies of the Rugby Lionesses team, enjoyed a presentation evening, following the end of their first season as a ladies rugby team.

The ladies formed part of a Cluster Ladies League, which saw them play teams, who have been playing for some considerable time, and had a wealth of experience.

However the end of the season saw the ladies finish joint third out of a league of nine teams, a fantastic achievement by all.

At the beginning, the team were having to borrow on loan players from other teams, however as the season went on, they were very proud of the fact, the team they were fielding for matches were made up wholly of the Rugby Lionesses.

In April, the ladies travelled to Barry Island, Wales on a weekend tour which saw them play the Barry Bombettes, a local team of ladies.

A great weekend had by all, and the hospitality shown by Barry Rugby Club was outstanding, and it certainly was an enjoyable weekend, although not sure about the hill that was classed as their pitch!!

Friday night saw their presentation evening, a chance for the whole team to get together. Votes were cast by all, and the following won,

l Forward of the season – Tracy Booker

l Back of the season – Hollie Adams

l Clubman of the season – Gemma Booker

l Player’s player was won by Sian Harrison.

l Roger Weddell (coach) then presented his own award which was the coach’s player of the season, and this year it was won by Leanne Noakes, which was thoroughly deserved.

All players and staff should be very proud of them selves on all the hard work and effort that has been done over this first season, and we certainly look forward to the start of the next one.

The ladies are still currently looking for ladies to join their pride, so if you are over 18 and are interested, then please get in touch by either emailing rugbylioness@gmail.com or by calling Gemma Booker (captain) on 0778 8951512 or Roger Weddell (coach) on 07921515024 for more information.

lternatively you will see the ladies out on the night of Saturday October 27 around the town, hoping to recruit more ladies, so please do approach if you are interested.
