Great team spirit in 61-14 victory over Leamington 2nds
Leamington 2nd XV 14
Newbold 3rd XV 61
Newbold travelled the short distance to Leamington with sixteen hardy souls present.
During the warm up it became apparent that the task in hand maybe against a far superior amount of players. The Newbold boys took to the field with the correct mindset and soaked up a sustained period of pressure from the home side.
At the end of this it was the visitors turn to push and from this Sam Thompson broke clear and sprinted for a breakaway try converted by Martin Shaw. Newbold now had their tails up and Dave Smith powered over from a tapped penalty.
Sam Thompson then ran the best line of the game to score a try without the defenders knowing where he had come from and the scoring was completed by James Mcgill who was running everything back with interest from full back all scores converted by Martin Shaw. The home side then got on the score sheet with their flanker driving over after a series of drives this score was converted. HT 7-28.
The half time team talk was brief more of the same and defend when we have to. Again the visitors flew out of the traps, scores from Charlie Harness,Lee Arbuthnot and another one added by James Mcgill took Newbold out of sight. The lads had played some of the best seen this season so far. Kevin Whitehead made his long awaited return and was very impressive. Sam Thompson completed his hat-trick and Dave Smith capped a fine game with another try.
The home side snatched a try with Newbold playing at full tilt and trying to score from everywhere. Martin Shaw added most of the conversions. Great win against a good side, the spirit in the team is great and it showed in the smiles on the faces at the end of the game.
Next week league action against Old Wheats away. MOM James Mcgill.
