Surprise visit by Australian rugby star
All the rugby teams at Bilton Grange School in Dunchurch had some coaching tips from a surprise visitor last week during training time. Ben Alexander, a tight head prop in the Australian rugby squad, came to school to meet the boys and offer some invaluable advice on playing top flight rugby.
Taking time off from his training schedule in advance of the England vs Australia Autumn International match on Saturday, Ben came up to Bilton Grange with his good friend Matt Pryor, one of Bilton Grange’s visiting rugby coaches. Ben took time to talk to all the teams, from the U9’s to the First XV, and to walk around the pitches and take in the different aspects of the boys’ rugby training.
The Bilton Grange boys (and coaches!) asked Ben some tricky questions, ranging from “do you remember your biggest tackle?” to “who do you think will win on Saturday!”… In turn, Ben spoke to every team, encouraging them to enjoy their rugby, and to listen to their coaches, and there was some lively banter about the predicted outcome of Saturday’s match!
Mark Tovey, Director of Sport at Bilton Grange said: ““We were thrilled that Ben took the time out of his busy training in the run up to Saturday’s game to come and see us at Bilton Grange.
“The boys (together with their coaches and parents!), were amazed to see such a big star of the rugby world at Bilton Grange – and even happier to have the opportunity to chat to him and get his tips on playing great rugby. I’m really grateful to all who made this happen, as I know the boys will remember and be inspired by this for many years to come.”
