Last game of the season for 3rd XV

Newbold IIIs 55

Bedworth IIIs 14.

On a glorious sunny afternoon Newbold entertained Bedworth to Parkfield Road for the last game of a successful season. Newbold had to lend the visitors three players to enable the game to take place which they duly did.

The first ten minutes were scrappy with a lot of energy exerted for not a lot of gain. The deadlock was broken by Jordan who ran in his first score for the seniors having earlier had one chalked off only for the referee to go back to play an advantage to the home side? Ben Harrison converted and this try was soon followed by Rob G on the opposite wing showing good speed to go in the corner this time Ben fell just short with his attempted conversion.

Bedworth showed lots of character and after some great pick up and drives they scored a try of their own and added the conversion. This opened the flood gates at the other end and further scores were added by Jake Fletcher,Ed Scott,Reiss Boon adding singles and the impressive Rob G and Jordan added to their earlier scores. Half time 39-7.

Changes made at half time hampered the flow of the game for a few minutes but the Newbold lads got back into it after a little reorganisation.

Grimmett at full back was a tactical genius decision made by the management team. His strong running ensured Ed Scott scored a second and Grimmett also got on the score sheet himself. Connor G and Ben Hartwell performed well in the loose.

Bedworth added to their first-half score but the best was saved for last with Dave Smith running in from 30 metres for a score on his 40Th birthday. A good performance by the home side and much thanks for Bedworth in making a game of it.

Newbold III’s have, after a promotion last year had a tremendous year and the Captain Richard Wilson would like to thank all the lads who have made it possible for a second placed finish in a very tough league: “Have a rest during the summer and we go again in September”.

MOM Jordan and Rob G.
