Victory over Kenilworth
Kenilworth IIIs 17
Newbold On Avon RFC IIIs 40
Newbold travelled to Kenilworth on a spring like Saturday afternoon. Perfect conditions for running rugby a huge pitch with little wind and no rain for a nice change.
Newbold started at a pace that the home side found difficult to match the ball being shipped quickly through numerous sets of hands but the last past either not going or not sticking. Dave Smith took matters into his own hands and ran straight and hard and managed to barge his way over for the first try converted by Lee Arbuthnot.
This sparked Kenilworth into the game and from the unclaimed restart the home sides impressive full back managed to go unchallenged under the posts for a converted score.
The game then opened up with Newbold’s impressive back line looking sharp, Tom Clarke scored a try after being shown the outside and taking it and Lee Arbuthnot capping an impressive display with a try of his own both tries converted. Damien Gray grabbed a try for the forwards for a satisfactory half for the travelling side. Half time 7-26.
A rejig of personnel at half time seemed to upset Newbold’s flow a little and an early score for the home side was the result thus bringing Kenilworth back in the game again.
The home side enthusiasm had to be quelled and this was managed with good effect by Tom Clarke and Lee Arbuthnot both completing their brace of tries both converted by Lee. The home side had the last word with a second for their full back.
A good run out for the Newbold thirds but they know they can play better but a win away from home is not to be ignored. Silvio Marsella made a welcome return in the centre, the gym sessions paying off. MOM Tom Clarke.
