Newbold’s U18s Colts’ squad had a great night at their end of season presentation.
Sam Wightman, in his final year with the Colts, collected the award for Team Player of the Season.
Colts’ Captain Kyle Furlong topped a great season, which included a deserved debut selection for the 1st XV, by picking up the votes for Players’ Player of the Season.
Manny Sidhu was awarded the Coaches’ Player of the Season – having been top try scorer for the fourth year in a row and being a constant threat to the opposition all season.
The award winners are pictured with some of their team mates.
The Colts had a successful season - finishing third in the Warwickshire Colts league, winning the Shield at the annual Warwickshire Sevens tournament, playing in the National Colts Cup as well as being Warwickshire’s representative in the RFU’s National U17 Plate competition. The season ended with a fantastic tour to South Wales.
With a lot of squad members having played an age group ‘up’ this season, the majority of the squad will have their second year as Colts next season when the club are hoping for an even more successful return from their young guns. New squad members would be welcome.
Any experienced players who will be in the U16-18 age group next year who would be interested in joining this successful, social squad and club should contact one of the coaches: Martin Green (07785 788044) or Martin Reed (07802 615147).
The Colts’ popular summer Touch Rugby is on Wednesdays at Parkfield Road - with pre-season training starting in August. Feel free to come along!
