Welsh gained their third successive league victory with a well deserved result over a resolute Exiles outfit.

The weather conditions at Alwyn Road were not ideal with heavy rainfall falling throughout the contest which, unsurprisingly, led to both sides making mistakes in the first quarter.

The home side took control of the match from the outset with the basis of their victory being through their pack who dominated the set pieces.

Guy Shaw kicked three well struck penalties to settle any nerves and Adam Bond increased the Welsh lead with a typical run which saw him burst through tackles to score a well taken try. Shaw converted the effort which gave Welsh a solid 16-point half-time lead.

The second half saw Exiles have some early pressure but the Welsh defence was solid throughout with Reynolds performing well at no.8 and Buckland marshalling the backs well at fly half.

As the half progressed Welsh regained their authority, particularly amongst their forwards who worked well as a unit.

Further Welsh pressure was rewarded by a second Adam Bond try converted again by Shaw. Exiles got on the scoreboard with a late penalty but Welsh sealed their victory when a catch and drive from a lineout saw the forwards force their opposition backwards and Matty Richards scored the third try of the afternoon.

This victory sees Welsh move up to third place in the league. There is no match this Saturday on World Cup final day but Welsh will look forward to their next away league match against Copsewood, kick-off 2.15pm with increased confidence.
