St Neots 46 Rugby Lionesses 41
The Lionesses made the journey to St Neots, for what proved to be a very close game, on a beautiful sunny day, against a team of ladies who were fielding a team with a lot of experience. The ladies played 11 a side, due to the home team not being able to field a full team.
From St Neots kick off, the first scrum was followed shortly, with St Neots having a well worked back move only denied by an outstanding tackle from Hollie. Good handling from the home team, results in a try for them, followed by the conversion, and with the home team having excellent runners they again breach the lionesses tackling by working the overlap to gain another try, however this time unconverted.
The lionesses, from a well worked scrum, leads on to Hollie scoring their first try and being converted by Kerrie.
This was followed shortly by another unconverted try for the home team. However, good work by the lionesses, mixing forward and back working in tandem resulted in the lionesses camping in the opposition 22. Following on from the sustained lionesses pressure, they finally found space on the outside for Hollie to score her second try, again converted by Kerrie. A quick tap and go by Emma resulted in a straight run through a sleeping St Neot’s defence, which again was converted.
A St Neot’s scrum on the lionesses 5m line resulted in them pulling open for a try. Half time score was 22-21.
Straight from the KO, a turnover maul results in a home try, this being followed on not long after, the home team scoring another two tries.
Again the lionesses showed their resilience, with a lot of support from coach and captain, a quick tap penalty resulting from a high tackle on Hollie, results in Caz powering through their goal line defence, not long after, Hayley receives the ball in the lionesses half and runs the length of the pitch to score her debut try. St Neots win a line out in their half and get it to the outside for their winger to run in the try, but from the restart the lionesses work the ball well, keeping the ball alive, which enable Sian to also score her first try of the season, again hardwork by the lionesses results in a push over try for Caz.
The lionesses were pushing hard for that extra try, but unfortunately time was against them. An excellent game played by everyone, and the forward of the match went to Donna Whittle and the backs went to Caz Archer.
