Derby day with league champions Rugby Lions at Alwyn Road on Saturday

Rugby Welsh RFC had an enjoyable Easter Saturday as they managed to put together two sides for an interclub match. The club are trying to put out an occasional ‘Occies’ team out for players who are unable to commit to playing regular rugby but wish to still get their boots on occasionally.

It was good to see players such as Steve Stanton and Luke Childs enjoy their afternoon and hopefully this can be built on next season. The game was split in to four 15-minute sections, played in great spirit, excellently refereed by local ref Paul Shallcross. Although the result was largely irrelevant, the Occies managed to secure a win with two late tries on the last quarter.

This Saturday Welsh play their final match of the season when they face local rivals and league champions Rugby Lions at Alwyn Road. Welsh wish to congratulate Rugby on their successful season and are hoping for a good sized crowd for the 3pm kick off.

A pre-match VP’s buffet will be available at The Black Horse from 1pm and Welsh cordially invite all Lions players, officials and supporters to the pub afterwards for the after-match festivities.
