Princethorpe College wing enjoys win over Italy U17s in Wellington Rugby Festival
Rising Princethorpe College rugby star Adam Shaw had his first taste of international play at the Wellington Rugby Festival. One hundred boys representing five divisions from across the Country played against France, Wales, Scotland and Italy with the hope of earning their first England cap. Just missing out on 1st XV selection Adam, 16, played for the second team, England Saxons, against Italy U17s winning 10-8.
Adam, who plays right wing, has his sights set on a professional career in the sport with him looking forward to a two year contract with Leicester Tigers Academy starting in September.
As the most consistent and prolific try scorer for Princethorpe College’s 1st XV Shaw has enjoyed a superb year which has included competing at the England Schools’ Athletics Championships where he excels at both long jump and 200 metres.
Princethorpe Director of Rugby Jon Fitt said: “We have followed Adam’s progress since he arrived with us in Year 7 having never played rugby before. He has the complete game: speed, strength and intelligence which will continue to be developed during the next years of his rugby career. Representing England has been the best way for him to have concluded the season.”
