League campaigns resume

After the festive break, the town’s rugby teams resume their league campaigns on Saturday.

All are flying high in the top four of their divisions, so the second half of the season is an exciting prospect.

Old Laurentians, unbeaten at the top of Midlands 2 West (South) are back in action with a trip to struggling Old Coventrians.

Just a point behind them, second placed Newbold are at home at Parkfield Road to Old Yardleians, who are currently in sixth.

Rugby St Andrews, who are fourth in Midlands 3 East (South) travel to Bedford Queens, always a testing fixture on their home turf. Queens are 11th out of the 12 sides in the division with six wins and six defeats.

In Midlands 4 West (South) following their Junior Vase quarter-final win at Buxton last week, Rugby Lions head for Birmingham on Saturday.

The unbeaten league leaders face Five Ways Old Edwardians, who have won just two of their ten games so far.

And in Midlands 5 West (South) Rugby Welsh, who made a great start to the season to begin the new year in fourth spot, host Coventry Technical at Alwyn Road.

Their visitors have won just one of their eight league games so far.
