Disappointment for OLs against fellow strugglers
It was a good weekend for four of the town’s five clubs on Saturday, but Old Laurentians couldn’t manage to build on last week’s first win of the season.
Newbold stay fourth in Midlands 1 East after beating Northampton Old Scouts 24-3 at Parkfield Road. OLs travelled to Newark and went down 27-15. It leaves them bottom of the table, with Matlock and Newark just above them.
In Midlands 3 West (South) Rugby Lions continued to make up for their shaky start, beating bottom club Pershore 43-10 away from home. Lions stay fourth in the table.
Rugby St Andrews won the battle at the bottom of Midlands 3 East (South) winning 20-6 at John Tomalin Way to St Ives. It lifts Saints to tenth in the table with their second win in five games.
In the best start to the season for any of the teams, Rugby Welsh made it three out of three with their 26-3 win over Birmingham Exiles at Alwyn Road. It leaves the sides third and fourth respectively, in Midlands 5 West (South). Five Ways Old Eds and Keresley top the table.
