RUGBY: Wins for Newbold and Lions
There were just a couple of competitive first team games on Saturday, with only Newbold and Lions in action.
At Parkfield Road, Newbold had the narrowest of victories, 18-17 against Huntingdon & District. Unbeaten Newbold stay top of Midlands 1 East, four points ahead of nearest rivals Old Northamptonians. Huntingdon are seventh.
This weekend Newbold travel to 13th placed Ilkeston.

Hide AdRugby Lions are through to the last four in the RFU Midlands Intermediate Cup, having won 29-27 at Oadby Wyggestonians.
This Saturday’s game sees the unbeaten Midlands 2 West (South) leaders back in league action, hosting fourth-placed Berkswell & Balsall at Webb Ellis Road.
Lions are six points clear at the top on 43 points, with Silhillians second on 37, with Spartans and Berkswell & Balsall both on 34.
Old Laurentians welcome Oakham to Fenley Field on Saturday, for a Midlands 2 East (South) fixture. In this very tight division OLs are third on 32 points and Oakham fourth with 31. Leaders Peterborough have 36 points and second placed Oundle 33.

Hide AdSeventh-placed Rugby St Andrews have a tough game this weekend when Midlands 3 West (South) runaway leaders Droitwich visit John Tomalin Way, with a record of nine wins from nine.
Rugby Welsh also face their top-of-the-table side Burbage in Midlands 5 West (South) this weekend. Burbage have 39 points from eight wins out of eight. Welsh are fourth on 14.
