Sherwood pips Bryan to clinch first ParkRun

Pete Bryan was the only Kenilworth Runner to make the short trip to the inaugural Leamington ParkRun at Newbold Comyn.

The free to enter 5k run, which attracted 82 runners, utilised the gravel trails around Newbold Comyn golf course. The route follows part of the Regency 10k, although in the opposite direction.

Bryan found himself in the lead group and eventually finished second in a time of 18min 25sec.

Kenilworth Runners’ Stuart Hopkins represented Great Britain at the ETU Duathlon European Championships in Limerick, Ireland, coming home fifth in the 35-39 age group and 40th overall.

In his first major championships, Hopkins was eighth overall after the opening 10k run (33:11) but slipped down the field during the 38k bike ride, which he completed in 1:04:21.

He made up positions on the final 5k run, which he assumed to be on the short side as he completed it in 14:54, the fourth fastest run overall.

Warwick-based Chris McCarthy ran a personal best 33:49 in the Moreton-in-Marsh 10k to add a third title for Tipton Harriers in as many weeks.

McCarthy, formerly of Spa Striders, held off Garry Payne of George Eliott Striders to hit the front in the last 800 metres.
