SPORTS AWARD: Award for Boughton Leigh Junior School

Boughton Leigh Junior School is celebrating after being recognised for its commitment to competitive sport by achieving the Bronze School Games Mark award.

Ian Smart, Partnership & Sports Centre Development Manager at Harris CofE Academy was delighted to attend Boughton Leigh Junior School in his role as Schools Games Organiser to present them with the well deserved award during their assembly on Tuesday.

The School Games, which is supported by National Lottery funding from Sport England, and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust, provide a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the country by encouraging them to take part in competitive school sport.

The Games are made up of four levels of activity: competition in schools, between schools, at county/area level and a national event for the most talented school age athletes.

To recognise good practice schools are encouraged to apply for the Mark to celebrate their achievement and Boughton Leigh Junior School has been successful in achieving the Bronze Award.

Over the last year Boughton Leigh Junior has taken part in a range of competitive sporting opportunities. In fact the school took part in all level 2 games competitions and consistently achieved good results.

Both the boys and girls teams represented the Eastern Warwickshire area in indoor rowing and achieved a bronze and silver medal.

Angela Marsay PE Co-ordinator said: “Over the course of 2015/16 we hope this will continue, as we offer our children a wide variety of sporting opportunities.”

This is the second award Boughton Leigh Junior School have received in recognition for their commitment to PE and School Sport.

In July 2014, the school made a successful application for the Association for Physical Education Quality Mark.

The afPE Quality Mark recognises, through a succinct self-review and evaluation process, the strength and quality of physical education and sport in the school.

Head teacher Carl Thornton said: “We were very proud to be the first school in the county to achieve this award.”
