Year 4 Pupils Buzzing at The Ricoh

Around 200 Year 4 pupils from six Rugby primary schools enjoyed an exciting day of multisports at the Ricoh Arena on Monday, June 13, thanks to Wasps RFC and event organisers Harris CofE Academy School Sports Partnership.

Schools subscribed to Harris SSP were invited to attend the Ricoh festival where they participated in a carousel of activities focused on participation and enjoyment.

Pupils enjoyed tae kwon do, tri golf, boxing fitness, the Wasps Interactive Zone where they could test their strength, accuracy and speed, and a dance workshop where they learned the #WaspsWiggle which everyone performed at the end of the day.

Each school also enjoyed a stadium tour with a member of the Wasps team where they were able to see behind the scenes including the stadium control room and the Wasps’ home team changing rooms.

The cryo-chamber prompted a number of questions! Pupils then left the changing rooms, re-enacting how the Wasps players would exit and ran out of the tunnel onto the pitch, waving to the audience in the 32,609 seater arena.

Classes then made their way to the press suite where they took part in a mock post-match press conference where they had a question and answer session with Neal Coupland, Head of Wasps Community Team.

This was followed by a Q&A session with rugby legend and former England International player Paul Sackey. The talented and very fit Wasps mascot Sting joined in all of the practical sessions throughout the day, working alongside the children in some energetic activities!

The organisers would like to thank the 14 young leaders from Ashlawn School who attended this event to coach the children in the various activities and huge thanks to all of the Wasps RFC community team who helped to make the event so successful.

Lots of photos and videos were taken during the day. Please see the Harris CofE Academy SSP’s Facebook & Twitter pages or look on their website: http://www.harriscofeacademy.co.uk/Gallery
