Review: Luke Jackson

The Merchants Inn

November 4

By Tony Wilding

Almost a year to the day since his last visit where he was guest of Martyn Joseph, Luke makes his fifth visit to Rugby Roots, second time as headliner, at this intimate venue with a spellbinding almost two-hour performance.

Luke’s voice is maturing at a remarkable pace and is used to its utmost during an opportunity to deliver many of the new songs destined for his next album which is due for a February 2014 release.

His current album More Than Boys was represented by among others Big Hill and Last Train, the latter in a new guise together with a fine rendition of Richard Thompson’s Beeswing.

The show closed with an acappella of A Change Is Gonna Come (Sam Cooke), however the new songs had dominated the evening.

Expect a cracking album, and while you wait catch Luke live somewhere near you soon.
