Dr Seuss’ much-loved stories are set to be realised in a new musical coming to Rugby.
Seussical, Five Star Entertainment’s 12th production, will be performed at the Benn Hall in Rugby on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September.
Performed by a cast of 40 local young people aged between six and 19, the show features many of Dr Seuss’s characters, including the Cat in the Hat and Horton Hears a Who.
Hosting the show will be the Cat, while Horton plays the story’s central character, in which he is determined to prove - with the help of Gertrude McFuzz - that “a person’s a person, no matter how small”.
With some upbeat musical numbers and original choreography, it promises to entertain children and adults alike.
Show designer Liv Harvey, who created the costumes for the company’s last production, has designed the “stunning” costumes and scenery for Seussical.
There will be two matinee performances for youngsters to enjoy - 2pm on Saturday and Sunday - as well as an evening performance at 7.30pm on the Saturday.
After the performance, the children in the audience will have a chance to meet the Cat in the Hat.
‘Seussical’ is brought to the stage by Five Star Entertainment, a youth theatre company. Founded in May 2008 by Ethan J Smith when he was just 13 years old, the company has since staged 11 productions involving over 100 young and local performers.
Smith and co have some exciting productions in the pipeline following Seussical, including Rugby’s only approved production of Annie.
Five Star Entertainment will soon be giving people the opportunity to audition for Annie, and recommend those interested go along to Seussical for a taste of what to expect.
